Why Main Event is Becoming BAMAthon
University of Alabama Dance Marathon (UADM) is the largest student-run philanthropy on UA’s campus. Each February, we hold an annual Main Event in celebration of the year-long fundraising campaign for Miracle Kids treated at Children’s of Alabama.
The Main Event is a 13.1-hour-long dance marathon, and our largest event of the year, where UADM Miracle Makers come together to raise proceeds for our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Birmingham and show love and support to Miracle Kids and their families. It is a truly magical day, as we are positively affecting these families’ lives and give their kids more opportunities to do just that: be a kid.
Despite UADM’s size as an organization, the Main Event often resembles a warm and homey atmosphere. We welcome all students and faculty to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves. In order to reach even further into the community and continue to establish our roots at The University of Alabama, UADM has decided to rename Main Event to BAMAthon.
The community here in Tuscaloosa has an overwhelming love for their city, state and, of course, football. With this name change, UADM hopes to continue to foster its connection with the campus and community. Alabama is home to our Miracle Kids and we want them to know they can find a home at UADM, as well.
As Director of BAMAthon, I cannot express how excited I am to be a part of this change! These kids deserve the world and to see them smiling and celebrating even the smallest of moments gives me so much joy. I can’t wait to see the number of miracles we jumpstart together! #FTK
